Hola Mohalla is a Sikh festival started by Guru Gobind Singh, 10th Guru of the Sikhs, in the 18th century. He invited Sikhs to gather for military exercises and exhibitions of athletic prowess. In that spirit, we held our inaugural ride of the Sikh Cycling Club on Saturday. Thanks to all 21 cyclists who joined us from across California’s Bay area and Sacramento for a 50-mile route starting and finishing at Fremont Gurdwara Sahib. We started our inaugural ride with an Ardas and then were sent off by Chetan Singh Hari, a member of India’s national cycling team in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Humbled and excited about the turnout! Big thanks to our volunteers who provided snacks and support at our rest stops.
More pics coming soon. This was the first official ride of the Sikh Cycling Club and we’re looking forward to building momentum, including with more Kaurs. Stay tuned for our Vaisakhi event! Fateh!
