Happy Diwali and Bandi Chhorh Divas!
On Saturday, October 22, we celebrated by riding up Mt. Diablo in Danville, CA, a leg-lighting 4,000 foot climb over 15 miles to the peak. We were joined by new members who set personal records for climbing. We were honored to witness their achievements!

For Sikhs, Bandi Chhorh Diwas, or The Day of Prisoner Release, is celebrated each year on Diwali, the Festival of Lights. We celebrate the release from prison of the sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind.
When the Mughal emperor released Guru Hargobind, the Guru secured the release of 52 other kings who were also imprisoned. By the 18th century, Diwali became one of the key occasions for assembly by the Sikh community. It has been a prominent date on the Sikh calendar to this day.
Thanks to all who came out to commemorate this important date in our history! Next up: our last big ride of the year, the Sikh Century to the Yuba City Nagar Kirtan on 11/5. Stay tuned!
