On October 31, Sikh Cycling Club will ride from West Sacramento to Yuba City for one of our favorite traditions of the year — riding to the Yuba City Nagar Kirtan.
It’s a century ride, but you don’t need to be century-ready today.
You have about two months.
We’ve put together a simple training framework to help riders build toward the distance progressively. Whether you’re already riding regularly or looking for a reason to get more consistent this fall, the goal is the same: build your endurance, get comfortable spending longer hours on the bike, and arrive at Yuba ready to enjoy the experience.
The 7-Week Build
Week 1: Re-establish rhythm
Get back into a consistent riding rhythm. Aim for one longer endurance ride plus one or two shorter rides during the week.
Week 2: Build aerobic base
Increase your long ride gradually while keeping most of your riding comfortable and sustainable.
Week 3: Maintain consistency
Continue extending your long ride. Practice eating and drinking regularly while riding.
Week 4: Increase durability
Your long ride should begin feeling like a normal part of the week rather than a special event.
Week 5: Build stamina
Start approaching the distances where pacing, fueling and comfort become as important as fitness.
Week 6: Peak endurance
Complete one of your longest rides of the training block. This is a good opportunity to test the clothing, nutrition and equipment you plan to use at Yuba.
Week 7: Taper & arrive fresh
Reduce your volume, keep the legs moving, and arrive rested.
Then we ride to Yuba.
A Few Things Matter More Than Mileage
Consistency beats hero rides. A handful of regular rides over eight weeks will help you more than suddenly attempting huge mileage.
Ride easy enough to go long. Most endurance riding should feel sustainable. You’re building the ability to stay on the bike for hours.
Practice your fueling. Eat and drink during your training rides. Century day is not the time to experiment.
Build gradually. If you’re starting from a lower mileage base, adjust the plan to where you are. You do not have to match someone else’s training.
Ride with people. Long miles get easier when they become community miles.
Seven weeks from now, we’ll roll toward Yuba City together.
Start today.
Not ready for 100 miles? You have options.
