Our Rider Profile series highlights the stories that make up Sikh Cycling Club. Each rider brings a different journey, and together those journeys form the collective story of our club.
Meet Sumer Singh Johal from the Bay Area in California!
Sumer got into cycling during COVID after being invited out for a ride by his friend Sunil. What began as a simple invitation turned into something much bigger.
Since then, cycling has changed his life. It brings him joy, health, and adventure. He especially loves riding in new places around the world and experiencing different landscapes and cultures through the bike.
Sumer joined Sikh Cycling Club to connect more deeply with the Sikh community, make new friends, and pursue meaningful rides together. For him, it’s about shared miles and shared identity.
While every ride carries its own memories, his most memorable was the 2024 Chardi Kala Ride. What stood out most was the camaraderie in adversity, the way the group showed up for one another and embodied the spirit of Chardi Kala through challenge.
We appreciate Sumer’s overflowing enthusiasm and the joy he brings to our rides. It’s riders like him who keep the spirit strong.
