In honor of Baba Budha Ji, join us as we ride to nine Gurdwaras in the Sacramento region on October 21!
Baba Budha Ji (“wise old man”) was born on October 6, 1506 and lived until September 8, 1631. He is one of the most venerated figures of the Sikh faith.
Baba Budha Ji occupies a unique position in Sikh history and in the hearts of all Sikhs. He was named “Budha” as a child by Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh Guru, because of the great wisdom he showed at a young age. He would remain attached to Guru Nanak and his successor Gurus. He applied the tilak of guruship to the next five Gurus, and lived during the lives of the first seven Gurus. The Gurus sought his advice throughout his life and was an institutional figure for his over century of life.
He was the first Giani of Harimandir Sahib, and laid the foundations of Dera Baba Nanak and most of the holy buildings at Amritsar. Guru Nanak honored Baba Budha Ji in conferring upon him the role of applying tilak to successor Gurus, especially significant because he belonged to a so-called low caste.
This year, Baba Budha’s birthday is celebrated on October 23. In commemoration, join us on October 21 as we ride to 9 different Gurdwaras in the Sacramento region in one day in his memory.
The full route is 86 miles, however it can be modified to shorter distances for those who would prefer. It will also make for the perfect last training ride for our Sikh Century in Yuba City on November 4.
Route is subject to change so RSVP for updates. You can join the ride on our Strava page here, where you can also see maps and more info!
